B Tambe Farsan Sweets

Our shop, B Tambe Farsan Sweets, is located at Shop No 277 in Mapla Mahal on Jss Road. It’s a small corner in Girgaon that always smells like fried snacks and sugar. We spend most of our day behind the counter or in the back kitchen where the big pots are kept. The stoves are almost always going. We make different kinds of farsan and traditional sweets that people around here have been eating for many years. It gets really crowded during the festivals, and sometimes the line goes right out the door. We try to keep up with the demand, but it’s a lot of manual work. My hands are usually covered in flour or some kind of spice by noon. We don’t use machines for everything because the taste changes if you do. Most of the recipes are things we learned from our elders. The glass cases are full of whatever we made fresh that morning. Sometimes we run out of the popular stuff before the sun even goes down. It’s a noisy street outside with all the traffic, but inside we just focus on the snacks. We aren't trying to be a big chain or anything fancy. We just like seeing the regulars stop by for their daily packets of snacks. It’s a simple life for us. We open early and close when the trays are empty. If you’re walking down Jss Road, you’ll probably see us.
