If you've ever walked through Zaveri Bazaar, you know how crowded it gets. We are right in the thick of it on Dhanji Street. Ashok Gems And Jewellery India Private Limited is up on the second floor of plot 12/14. The building is old, like most things in the Mumbadevi area, but it has a lot of history. Downstairs, the streets are always packed with people and delivery carts. It’s noisy and busy, but that’s the energy of the jewelry market in Mumbai. We’ve been in this spot for quite some time now. Our office is a bit cramped because we have a lot of equipment and files everywhere. We spend most of our hours dealing with gold and various stones. It’s a lot of manual work and talking to other traders on the street. Sometimes the power goes out for a minute, or the stairs feel like a workout, but we wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. This neighborhood is the heart of the trade. We know the tea stall guy around the corner and the other shop owners nearby. It’s not a place for fancy carpets or glass walls. It’s a place for real work. We focus on getting the gems sorted and the jewelry pieces ready. Being near the Mandvi area means we are close to everything we need. It’s a tough environment but it’s where we feel at home doing our business every day.
