Our shop is in the Kismat Building at Kemps Corner. It’s Shop No 1, so you can’t really miss it if you’re looking. Being right on Forjett Street means we see a lot of the traffic going toward Pedder Road. It’s a busy corner of the city. We deal with rentals, which keeps us pretty busy with paperwork and keys. The office is right opposite where Spencer & Co used to be. It’s a bit of a landmark for people giving directions. We’ve got a lot of items coming in and out every week. Sometimes the shop feels a bit small for everything we store, but we manage somehow. We aren’t big on talking ourselves up. We just handle the rentals and make sure the contracts are signed correctly. It’s a lot of back and forth with people looking for stuff. The building itself has that old Mumbai feel to it. We keep our hours regular, though sometimes we stay late to finish up the logs. It’s a lot of practical work, checking inventory and talking to customers who walk in from the street. The noise from the main road is constant, but you get used to it after a few days. We’ve been here long enough that the local chai wallas know our order without us asking. Just a normal shop doing normal work. There is no air conditioning, just a ceiling fan that keeps the air moving. We like being right here on the ground floor.
