Anil Dighe Architect

I’ve been running my architecture practice out of Nerulkar Chawl for quite some time now. It’s at number 33 on Dr. Ambedkar Road in Khar West. It’s a lively part of Mumbai to be in. The office is pretty basic, just a place to get the work done. I do a lot of the drafting and site visits myself. Being in a chawl, it’s a very grounded environment. There’s always something happening outside on the street. I work with people who want to build or change their homes and shops. I handle the drawings, the measurements, and the various bits of paperwork you need for the city. It’s a lot of detail work, making sure the stairs are the right height or the plumbing lines make sense. I don’t have a big team or anything, just a few people I call on when I need help with bigger tasks. People in the area know where I am if they need advice on a building project. I try to be straightforward about what can and can’t be done. Sometimes the regulations are tricky, but I’ve been around long enough to figure things out. It’s just honest, local work. I enjoy the process of seeing a sketch on a piece of paper turn into a real building you can walk into. Khar West is a busy place, and Dr. Ambedkar Road is always humming with people. I’ve seen the shops change hands and the buildings get taller over the decades. My office might not look like much from the outside, but inside we are busy with serious work.
