Working over here at Elder House on Plot No. C-9 in the Dalia Industrial Estate is always a bit of a rush. Being off Veera Desai Road in Andheri West means we are right in the middle of all the noise and traffic of Mumbai. You can hear the vehicles honking outside all day long while we’re inside dealing with the pharmaceutical side of things. The industrial estate is a maze of buildings and trucks loading up crates of medicine. Inside our space, it’s mostly about managing the production lines and keeping track of all the different batches. It’s a big operation, but it still feels like a workplace where people just want to get their shift done. We have rows of desks and then the areas where the actual manufacturing happens. The air conditioning is always humming to keep the labs cool, which is a relief from the Mumbai heat. We spend a lot of time checking labels and making sure the boxes are stacked properly for shipping. It’s not the kind of place where you sit around and chat for long; there’s always a truck waiting or a deadline for a shipment heading out. Elder Pharmaceuticals Ltd. has been around this area for quite a bit, and we’ve seen the neighborhood change a lot, but the work here remains pretty much the same day after day.
