Akshar Neon Signs

Down here at 864 Jogeshwari West, specifically in Jyotiba Nagar near Oriental College, things get pretty bright. Akshar Neon Signs is where we spend our days bending glass tubes and messing with gas and electricity. It’s a bit of a messy process to be honest. You have to get the heat just right or the glass snaps, which happens more often than I’d like to admit. The shop isn't much to look at during the day, just a lot of wires and transformers lying around on the benches. We mostly work on signs for local shops or people who want something glowing in their window. It gets hot in here because of the torches we use. Sometimes the neighbors pop in to see what’s glowing. It’s a weird job because you’re working with light but you’re also working with very fragile things. We’ve been at this location for a bit now. Jogeshwari is a crowded area, so getting materials in and out can be a real headache with the traffic. We don't really do much talking, mostly just focusing on the lines of the letters. If the light turns on and stays on, then the job is done. It’s just us doing what we know how to do with the tools we have. Some days are slow, others we are rushing to finish a big sign for a local restaurant. We just keep the gas tanks filled and the glass clean.
