Agarwal Sweets has been sitting on Old Court Road for a long time now. This part of Andheri East has changed quite a bit over the years, but our little corner at number 18 stays mostly the same as it has always been. It is a very busy street with people constantly rushing to the train station or heading to the various offices nearby. We have to start our work very early in the morning because that is when the fresh milk is delivered to us. The cooking pans we use are big and extremely heavy, and stirring the milk for hours takes a lot of effort. It is quite hard work on the arms and back. We do not have any fancy modern machines to do the stirring for us. Everything is still done by hand. The shop itself is not very large, so it can get a bit cramped when there are more than four or five people standing inside at once. We sell the usual things like laddoos, barfi, and sweets. We do not try to be modern or do anything too different from the old ways. We just stick to the recipes that have worked for us for a long time. Sometimes we run out of certain items by the early afternoon, and we just have to tell people to come back the next day. We are not trying to be the biggest shop in Andheri. We just want to make sure the sweets we put out are okay for our neighbors.
