Adarsh Sweet & Farsan Mart

Our shop is at the corner of 6th Cross and 11th Main in Dahisar. 41558 is the pin code. It is a quiet residential area compared to the center of Mumbai. We make sweets and farsan here. The big fryers are always going in the back. We make gathiya and papdi in large batches every morning. The smell of gram flour is very strong throughout the day. We open the doors early to catch the morning crowd. People coming back from the temple often stop by for a packet. We have those old glass jars filled with different snacks. The lids are heavy and my wrists get tired from opening them all day. Adarsh is a name we have used for a long time. It is just us and a couple of helpers. We do not have fancy packaging or boxes. We just use simple plastic bags and tie them with a piece of thread. The 6th Cross gets a bit dark at night but our lights stay on late. We have to clean the oil splashes off the walls every single week. It is hard work and the floor gets slippery if we are not careful. We have a small bench for people to sit on while they wait for their parcel. Most people just stand around and talk about the news. We know who likes more salt and who wants their snacks spicy. It is a neighborhood thing. We just want to keep making good food.
