Being up on the 9th floor of the Everest building gives us a pretty decent view of Hughes Road, though most days we are too busy to look out the window. A G Exports is a bit of a climb if the lift is acting up, which happens more often than we’d like. The lobby of the Everest is always crowded with people coming and going from different offices. Up here, it’s a bit quieter. We have desks piled high with shipping documents and samples. The air conditioning hums all day long, trying to keep the Mumbai heat at bay. Sometimes the windows rattle when the wind picks up. We’ve been in this building for a good while now. You get to know the security guards and the person who delivers the mail. Our office isn't very large, so we’ve had to get creative with how we store the export crates before they go down to the ground floor. It’s a lot of coordinating with people over the phone and typing out long lists of inventory. By five o'clock, the traffic on Hughes Road below is a solid line of headlights. We usually stay a bit later to finish up the day's logs. The carpet in the hallway is getting a bit thin near the door. We don't spend much time worrying about the decor. We just keep the files moving and make sure everything is where it needs to be. It is just a regular office day.
