Egra-Ii Farmers Producer Company Limited is based at Bisweswar Mahapatra’s house in the village of Basudebpur. Being located in a home means things are pretty relaxed here. We don't have a big office building or a corporate headquarters. We just have a room with some chairs and a table where we get together. Basudebpur is a quiet place and we like it that way. Most of our days are spent talking to the local farmers who come by to see if we have any news on prices or new ways to manage their land. Egra is a bit of a distance away, so we provide a central spot for people in this village to connect. Bisweswar usually has some tea ready for whoever drops in. We aren't experts in marketing or fancy business strategies. We just know about farming and the struggles that come with it. The rain, the pests, and the fluctuating market are what we talk about most. We have some basic tools and supplies kept in the shed out back. It’s a very hands-on operation. If someone needs help, they just walk over to the house. We don't have fixed hours really; if the lights are on, we are probably working on something. It’s a simple way to run a company, but it works for us here in Basudebpur. We just try to help each other out through the seasons.
