Patashpur-Ii Farmers Producer Companylimited is run out of Sangram Majumdar’s house in the village of Kharikapatna. We are near Pratapdighi. It is a quiet village where everyone knows what everyone else is growing. We formed this company to help out the farmers in our specific block. It is not like those big companies in the city. Our office is basically a room in the house where we keep the files and meet up in the evenings. We talk about the price of seeds, the weather, and who is going to take the next load to the market. It is a very practical way of doing things. We do not have a website or a fancy logo. We just have our names and our reputation in the village. It is hard work being a farmer, and even harder to try and run a company at the same time. We have had some tough years with the rain, but being together helps a bit. Most of us have been working these same fields since we were kids. This company is just our way of trying to get a little more control over our own lives and work. We do not use any fancy language or make big promises. We just want to make sure the work we do in the fields actually pays off at the end of the season. It is just us, the land, and a lot of effort every day. That is how we like it.
