Raheda Farmer Producer Company Limited is out in Raheda village in the Sahar area of Mathura. The company is basically run from Khem Chand’s place, he is the son of Ram Singh. If you know Mathura, you know the land has its own way of doing things. We are a local group of farmers who decided to put our names together. It is a very rural setup. We don't have a big receptionist or fancy signs. Most people just know where to find us by asking around the village. Raheda is a place where everyone knows everyone else’s business anyway. We spend our days looking at the crops and talking about the rain, or lack of it. Being a farmer producer company means we spend a lot of time trying to figure out the best way to move our stuff to the market without losing out. It’s hard work and there are no shortcuts. We sit around and discuss things like fertilizer and how to get the tractors fixed when they break down. It’s just a group of us trying to make a living from the earth. We don't have any polished slogans or anything like that. We just focus on the day-to-day tasks that keep a farm going. It’s about being there on the ground and seeing the work through from planting to harvest time. Every year brings something new, so we just keep at it.
