Sri Mahalakshmi Blue Metals

Our place is at No : 1, Bethaniyapuram. It’s in the Arapalayam area of the city. Sri Mahalakshmi Blue Metals is our business name. We deal with crushed stone, which people call blue metal. You can see the huge piles of it outside in the yard. It’s a very practical and physical business. We have the crushers and the loaders working most of the day. The dust is a constant thing in Bethaniyapuram. We have a small booth for the weighbridge where we check the trucks. People come in with their lorries and we fill them up. We give them the slip and they head out. It’s a very straightforward process. No : 1 is our address, right at the start of the lane. We’ve been here since the whole neighborhood was much smaller than it is now. Arapalayam has grown quite a bit around us. We don't have a fancy office or a waiting room. It’s just a place to keep the keys and the account books. The workers are all local guys from the area. We know the regular drivers who come for the stone. Blue metal is used for all the building and roads around here. We just provide the raw material. The machines need a lot of maintenance because of the rocks. We spend our weekends fixing the gears. It’s a tough trade. We don't have any slogans. We just sell the stones day after day.
