Aruna Alloy Steels Pvt. Ltd. is situated at 3/1, Melur Road in Olaganeri. It’s a bit outside the main city center, which is fine because we need the space for the steelwork. Dealing with alloys and steel means dealing with a lot of heat and heavy materials. The workshop is mostly open because it gets so warm inside with the furnaces running. We’ve got piles of scrap and finished goods all over the yard. It looks a bit messy to an outsider, but we have our own system for where everything goes. The road outside can get quite busy with lorries heading towards Melur. We spend our days checking the melts and making sure the molds are ready. It’s not the kind of job where you wear a suit. We wear heavy boots and work clothes that get worn out pretty fast. Most of the staff here live nearby in the Olaganeri area, so we’ve known each other for years. We don't have a lot of meetings; we just talk over the noise of the plant. Sometimes a batch doesn't come out right and we have to redo it, which is just part of the process. We aren't interested in being the most famous steel company. We just want to keep the furnace going and get the orders out to the people who need them. It’s hard work, but it’s what we know how to do. That’s our life here on Melur Road.
