Paharpur Primary School

Paharpur Primary School is actually on the 3rd floor of Friends Mahal, which is at No 20. We are located on Koodal Azagar Perumal Koil Street in Madurai. Being on the third floor means there are a lot of stairs to climb every morning, which keeps everyone a bit tired by the time they get to the top. The 625001 area is quite old and has that classic Madurai feel with the temple nearby. You can often hear the temple bells or the sounds of the market from our windows. Since we are a primary school, the rooms are full of small chairs and low tables. The walls have some drawings pinned up, mostly done by the kids during their break times. It gets very hot in Madurai, so being up on the 3rd floor helps a little with the breeze, though not always. The halls are narrow and the ceiling is a bit low in some parts of the building. We have a small corner for the water pots because the children are always thirsty. Most of the families living around Koodal Azagar Perumal Koil Street know us because they see us walking up and down the stairs every day. It is a busy little place with a lot of noise during the lunch hour when everyone is eating their tiffins. We just try to keep things moving and make sure everyone gets through the day okay. It's not fancy, but it works.
