We are situated out in Kihara, right along the Chandigarh Road. It is a bit of a drive from the main city center, but it gives us the space we need for the work we do. At Monnet Ispat And Energy Ltd., the day usually starts before the sun is even fully up. You can see the steam and the smoke from the road as you drive in. This isn’t a small workshop; it’s a large site with a lot of heavy equipment and tall structures. Most of us here have been working on this site for years and we know the rhythms of the machines. The noise is constant, a sort of low hum that you stop noticing after a while. We deal with iron and energy production, so there is a lot of heat and heavy labor involved. It’s not the cleanest job, and your clothes usually end up covered in soot by the end of the shift. We have big gates where the trucks come in to haul away what we make. The Chandigarh Road is always busy with traffic, which makes getting in and out a bit of a challenge sometimes. We don't have a fancy front desk with a receptionist. Usually, you just talk to the guys at the security gate or one of the supervisors walking the floor. It’s a tough environment but there’s a sense of getting things done. We just focus on the daily output.
