Kashmir House

Kashmir House is located at B 7/71 in Chaura Bazar, right opposite the Bata showroom. If you know Chaura Bazar, you know how crowded it gets, especially on the weekends. It’s a sea of people and scooters most of the time. We are lucky to be right across from a landmark like the Bata store because it makes it much easier to tell people where to find us. The shop is old-fashioned, with wooden counters and shelves that go all the way up to the ceiling. We spend a lot of our time climbing ladders to get things down for people to look at. It’s a busy way to live, but we like the energy of the bazaar. There’s always someone shouting or a horn honking outside, but once you’re inside, it feels a bit more contained. We’ve been in this family for generations, and we haven't changed much about how we do things. We still use paper receipts and talk to every person who walks through the door like they’re a neighbor. It gets very hot in the afternoons, so we usually have a big fan blowing in the corner. If you’re coming to see us, it’s best to walk or take a rickshaw because parking a car anywhere near B 7/71 is almost impossible. We stay open late most nights because the bazaar doesn't really sleep and there’s always something to be sorted out or put away before we close the doors and go home.
