Bangali Bablu Halwai & Cook

We operate out of Shivaji Nagar 1, and most of our days are spent around big pots and heavy pans. As halwais, we are used to the heat and the long hours on our feet. The shop isn't much to look at from the outside, but we keep it busy. We do a lot of cooking for local events too, so sometimes the shop feels a bit empty when we are out working at a function. When we are here, we are usually prepping vegetables or boiling milk. Shivaji Nagar 1 is a tight-knit place, and we’ve known our neighbors for years. The floor is made of old stone and it’s seen a lot of spills over time. We try to keep the bins tidy, but it gets messy when we are in the middle of a big order. We don't use fancy menus. We just tell people what we made fresh that day. Sometimes the fridge makes a weird humming noise, but it still keeps things cold enough. We aren't corporate people; we are just cooks who enjoy the work. If the door is open, it means we are ready to serve. We don’t have a big sign with lights, just the name above the door. It is a basic setup, but it’s been working for us. We just focus on the food and hope the people around here keep coming back. It is a simple way of living for us.
