Tubacex India Pvt. Ltd is based out of Plot No. 4A in Sector 3 of the Kandla Special Economic Zone. If you have ever been inside the SEZ, you know it is a whole different world compared to the rest of the town. There are strict gates and security everywhere, and the layout is very organized with long rows of factories and warehouses. Our place is quite substantial because of the type of metal work that happens here. The sound of machines is pretty much the background noise of our lives from Monday to Saturday. It is a hot environment, especially when the machinery is running or when the sun is beating down on the steel roof. We spend a lot of time in our safety gear, which is necessary but can be a bit heavy during the long shifts. The staff here comes from all over, and many of us have been at this site since it first opened up in this sector. We don’t have any fancy landscaping or a big lobby; it is just a solid industrial building where we focus on the pipes and tubes we handle. Lunchtime is usually when it gets quiet for a bit in the canteen before the next shift takes over. Dealing with the port nearby means there is always a sense of things moving toward the ships. It is hard work, but it is what we do here in the Kandla zone every day.
