Out here in Gandhidham, the industrial area is quite spread out. We are Smith Structures (India) Pvt. Ltd., sitting at Plot No. 37 in Ward 6. This part of Kachchh is very dry, and the wind blows a lot of sand around. We spend our time working on various structures and ironwork. It is a big plot, which is good because structural work takes up a lot of room. You can’t really do this kind of thing in a cramped space. The sun beats down on the metal roofs of the sheds, making it quite warm inside by midday. We are used to it though. Most of the people working here have been around for years. We aren't a new company that just showed up yesterday. Our address in Ward 6 is pretty easy to find if you know the area. We don't have a polished reception area or anything like that. You just walk in and find someone in the shop. It is a no-nonsense environment. We focus on the frames and the heavy lifting. Living and working in Gandhidham means dealing with the port traffic nearby. Sometimes deliveries take a bit longer because of the trucks on the main road. We just deal with it and keep the projects moving. It’s a simple operation at the core, despite the big name on the sign.
