Meraman Salt Works

Kutch is a unique place to work, especially when you're in the salt business. Meraman Salt Works is based in the Swaminarayan Building, Plot 39. We are in Sector 9 of Abdasa. It’s a bit of a drive out here, but this is where the action is. Our office is functional. We have some chairs, a desk, and maps of the area on the walls. Most of our work happens out in the fields, but this is where we handle the business side of things. It’s a lot of logbooks and phone calls to transport companies. The dust from the district travels everywhere, so we are always cleaning off our desks. We aren't a big corporation with fancy logos. We are just a group of people who know salt. The days are long and the sun is usually pretty harsh. We drink a lot of water and just keep moving. Sometimes the logistics get complicated because of the location, but we've learned how to handle the local roads over the years. We take things one day at a time and try to stay on top of the orders. It’s not glamorous work, but it’s what we do well. We’ve been here a long time and plan to stay. There isn't much else to say, we just keep working the pans and the office until the day is done.
