Main Bazar in Katch is a world of its own. It is loud, crowded, and there is always something happening. Kalpataru is right in the thick of it. We have a small shop space that we’ve been in for as long as I can remember. You can hear the motorcycles and the people shouting to each other all day long. We sell various goods, and the inventory changes depending on what we can get our hands on. It is a very traditional way of doing business. We open up early and don't close until late in the evening. There is no such thing as a quiet day in the Main Bazar. We know all the other shopkeepers around us. We share news and complain about the weather together. Our shop is cramped because we try to fit as much as we can inside. It isn't organized like a modern supermarket; you usually have to ask us where things are. We enjoy the interaction with the customers who come in. Some of them have been buying from us for decades. It’s a very personal business. We don't use computers much; most of our records are still kept in paper ledgers. It is a bit old-fashioned, but it works for us. We are part of the fabric of this market and we wouldn't have it any other way. It is just life in the bazaar.
