Bhuj is a place that stays in your mind, mostly because of the heat and the dust. Our office is on Ganesh Avenue, right in the Bhaveswar Nagar area. It’s a pretty simple building, nothing like those tall glass towers you see in the bigger cities. We have been working out of here for a long time now. Most of our days are spent sitting at our desks, dealing with the daily tasks that come our way. We usually arrive early to beat the midday sun, which can be really harsh in this part of Gujarat. There is a small tea stall just down the road where we go for our breaks, and that’s usually the highlight of the afternoon. The sign hanging outside is a bit faded, but it still says Islands Development Company clearly enough for people to find us. We don’t have any fancy furniture or expensive decorations. It’s just a workspace with some fans and old filing cabinets. Sometimes the power goes out, and we just have to sit and wait, chatting until it comes back on. It’s a quiet way of working, but we get things done. We know our neighbors and the people who walk past every day. It feels like we are part of the scenery here. We just keep our heads down and handle the work as it comes, day after day, without making much of a fuss.
