Our place is at Plot No. 329. It’s where we handle all the food processing and packing. It’s a different kind of vibe than the industrial shops nearby because everything has to be kept very clean. We wear hairnets and aprons, which can be a bit annoying when it’s humid, but that’s the job. There’s usually a sweet or savory smell hanging in the air depending on what we are running through the machines that day. We have a few different lines going at once, and it’s mostly about making sure the scales are accurate and the bags are sealed tight. Sometimes a machine jams up and everything stops for an hour while the mechanic tinkers with it. We just sit outside and have a tea until it’s fixed. It’s a lot of repetitive movement, but we’ve got a good group of people who talk and joke around to make the time go by faster. The yard is usually full of empty crates waiting to be washed and refilled. We don't have a big corporate story to tell; we just process food and send it out to the shops. It's a simple operation at Plot 329, and we try to keep things running smooth without too much drama. Some of us have been working here since the gates first opened up years ago.
