If you look for us in Makdola, you’ll find our spot at Omparkash’s house. He is Umrao’s son, and he’s been kind enough to let us run the farmer producer company from there. Being in Farukh Nagar means we are right in the middle of where the farming happens. Most of the people involved are local farmers who have spent their whole lives in these fields. We spend a lot of time sitting around talking about the soil and which crops are going to do well this year. It isn't a formal environment at all. You might see some mud on the floor or a tractor parked right outside the door. That is just life here in the village. We handle the logistics of getting the produce together so it can be sold more easily. It involves a lot of phone calls and writing things down in ledgers. Sometimes the cell service isn't the best, so we have to walk out to the main road to finish a conversation. We try to keep things organized, but when everyone shows up at once with their harvest, it gets a bit chaotic for a while. It’s the kind of chaos we are used to though. We don’t have any big corporate goals, just the daily task of making sure the crops get where they need to go. It’s hard work, especially when the sun is beating down on the roof.
