If you head over to Plot No 45 in Kurnool, you’ll find Clarence Matric Hr Sec School. It’s a bit of a jump from the primary sections because the students here are older and have a lot more on their plates with their higher secondary studies. The building sits right there in the 518001 zip code area, and it’s a fairly busy part of town. We spend our days trying to keep everything organized, from the science labs to the main office. The students are always carrying heavy bags and talking about their next big test. It’s a bit more serious here than at the junior schools. The classrooms have big blackboards and rows of wooden benches that have been there for years. We do not have fancy air conditioning or anything like that, so the ceiling fans are always going full blast. In the afternoons, the sun hits the front of the building, making the corridors quite bright. There is a lot of coming and going with the staff and the older kids who sometimes stay late for extra study. It’s a practical environment where the focus is just on the books and getting through the year. We do not make a big fuss about things, we just try to provide a steady place for the students to come and do their work every day. It is a lot of effort but we are used to the routine by now.
