Pangi is a remote place, and everyone knows it. Getting anything in or out of this part of Chamba takes time. We started Pangi Agrarians Farmer Producer Company Limited because we are a long way from the big markets. Puran Chand’s place in Vill Kuffa, near the Admin Colony, is where we keep our books. It’s cold here for a big part of the year. Our farming is different because of the snow and the short summers. We grow what we can and try to make sure nothing goes to waste. Being a company helps us when we need to deal with people outside the valley. Otherwise, they don't always listen to just one farmer. We’re all neighbors and relatives anyway. There’s no big boss here. Just a group of us trying to figure out how to get our produce down the mountain without it costing too much. We don't have shiny offices or people in suits. We wear heavy coats and spend a lot of time worrying about the roads being open. It’s a hard life but it's ours. We aren't making any big promises. We just work the land we have and try to do right by each other. If you ever make it up to Pangi, stop by. It's a long journey but the air is clean and the people are real. We don't have many tools, so we share what we have between the different families in the village. It's the only way to get by when the winter lasts so long and the passes are closed for months.
