If you head into the hills of Sirmaur, specifically near Sangrah, you will find us working out of Kalimitti. Shirgul Maharaj Farmer Producer Company Limited is named after our local deity because faith and farming go hand in hand for us. Narender Singh’s place is where we handle the paperwork, but the real work happens on the steep slopes all around this area. Farming in Sangrah is tough because the terrain is so rugged. You can’t just bring in big machinery like they do on the plains. Everything is done mostly by hand and with a lot of sweat. We decided to form this company because we wanted to have a collective voice. When you are just one farmer with a small plot, nobody really listens to you. But when a bunch of us from the village stand together, it’s a different story. We deal with all sorts of local produce and we are always trying to find better ways to get things to the market without everything spoiling or costing too much in transport. It is a very local operation, run by people who live right here in the village. We don't use big words or have complicated plans. We just want to make sure we can keep our traditions alive while making enough to support our families. It is honest work and we are proud to be doing it right here in Sirmaur.
