Holy Cross Matric School

Holy Cross Matric School is situated right on Hokenakkel Main Road in the Denkani Kottai area. It’s a spot that most people around Denkanikotta know well because of all the traffic heading out toward the falls. The school sits back a bit from the road, but you can still hear the buses and lorries going by throughout the day. We’ve got a mix of students from the local town and some of the smaller villages nearby. The morning starts with everyone gathering in the main area for the assembly. It’s usually a bit cooler in the mornings here in Hosur, which is nice before the midday sun hits the playground. The classrooms are basic but they stay full. We spend a lot of our time dealing with the daily grind, like fixing leaky taps or making sure the benches aren't falling apart. The teachers carry their bundles of notebooks back and forth to the staff room, and there’s always someone asking for a spare pen or a piece of paper. On Hokenakkel Main Road, there’s always something happening, but inside the gates, we try to keep things orderly. The school year follows the same pattern every time, with the rainy season bringing mud into the hallways and the summer making everyone move a bit slower. It’s just a local school where we do our best to keep the day running smoothly for the children.
