Over at 11 A 27 in Mahavir Nagar Third, you’ll find Bharathi Sugarcane Trading. We are right here in Kota, Rajasthan. Sugarcane is what we know, and this is where we do all the trading and paperwork for it. It’s a local business, through and through. The office isn't much to look at—just a room with some sturdy tables and chairs where we can sit and talk about the latest prices or the quality of the recent harvest. It smells a bit like old paper and sometimes the faint scent of the outdoors. We don't have any polished marketing materials or a big website. Most of our business happens through word of mouth and the relationships we’ve built over the years here in India. People come in, we have some water or tea, and we discuss the trade. It’s honest and straightforward. We don't use fancy jargon. If the sugar content is good, we say so. If there’s a delay with the transport, we deal with it. The street outside can get pretty noisy with the local traffic, but we don't mind. It’s part of being in Mahavir Nagar. We are just a small team of people who know the sugarcane business and try to keep things moving as they should. We don't claim to be the biggest, we just do our work and go home to our families. It is simple enough for us. Every morning we open up and check the day's logs.
