You can find us in Nayapura, right where the street gets a bit narrow near the corner. The shop name is on a hand-painted board outside that has faded a bit from the sun over the years. Inside, it is mostly just the smell of talcum powder and the sound of the old ceiling fan clicking on every single rotation. We have the usual setup with the big adjustable chairs and the glass shelves full of various combs and metal clips. It is a place where you come to get the job done without any extra fuss or noise. I see a lot of the same faces every month. We talk about the weather or how the local market is doing while I work. It is quiet work in a way, just the snip of the blades and the occasional splash of cold water. Sometimes the younger guys come in asking for new styles I have to look twice at, but we always manage to figure it out. The mirrors are old and have some dark spots on the edges, but they show you what you need to see. On Saturdays, it gets really crowded and people often have to wait outside on the front step. It is a neighborhood spot, plain and simple. We do not use those fancy hair gels that smell like fruit. We just use the stuff that actually works. When the day is finally over, I lock up the glass door.
