Srishaila Mallikarjuna Groundnut Farmer Producer Company Limited

We are based out in Mathigarahalli, which is part of the Molkalmuru Taluk. Most of us here are focused on groundnuts because that’s what grows well in this soil. This company was put together so the local farmers have a way to handle their business collectively. It’s a lot of work out in the fields and then coming back to the office to sort things out. We don't have a big fancy office, just a place in the village where we can meet and talk about the harvest. The roads out here can be a bit rough, especially when the rains come, but we manage somehow. Everyone knows everyone else in Mathigarahalli, so news travels fast. We spend our days checking on the crops and making sure the groundnuts are being handled right after they are pulled from the ground. It’s a practical life, not much for sitting around in suits. Sometimes the market prices aren't great, and other times they are okay, so we just take it as it comes. We help each other out with the machines and the transport when it’s time to move the bags to the market. It is a community thing more than anything else. There is always a bit of dust on our boots and a lot of talk about the rain. We aren't doing anything fancy, just working the land and trying to get the best out of what we grow here in Molkalmuru. We stay busy year-round doing this work.
