Woodlal Hospital

Woodlal Hospital is tucked away here in Kolkata. Being in this city means there is always noise coming from the streets, no matter the time. We have a lot of people coming through the doors every day. Some of them look tired, and our staff is usually tired too, but we keep going. The building itself has seen better days, maybe, but it holds up. We spend a lot of time just organizing files and making sure the beds are ready. It’s not like those hospitals you see on television shows. There is more sweat and more waiting involved. The tea stall right outside the gate is where most of us go when we get a ten-minute break. You can hear the fans whirring in the hallways. Sometimes the power flickers, but the backup kicks in eventually. We know the regulars by name, mostly the older folks from the neighborhood who come for their checkups. It’s a bit of a maze if you aren’t used to it. The stairs are narrow, and people are always rushing up and down with charts. We don’t really do anything fancy here. It’s just about getting the job done. The lobby smells like floor cleaner and old paper. Kolkata life is fast, and we just try to keep pace with it while helping out whoever walks in. It gets humid in the afternoons, so everyone moves a little slower then. That is just how life goes in this hospital.
