Upper Cut

Upper Cut is located near the Dunlop More area, right on the busy B T Road near the ISI campus. Being near such a big landmark means we get a real mix of people coming through our door. We have students from the institute, local residents, and people who are just passing through this part of Kolkata. The shop is a straightforward place. We don't have any air conditioning, just some good ceiling fans that stay on all day. It can get pretty dusty with all the traffic on B T Road, so we are always cleaning the mirrors and wiping down the counters. We have a few chairs and some benches for people to wait on. Usually, there is a newspaper lying around for folks to read. We don't do anything too fancy or complicated here. If someone wants a simple trim or a clean shave, that is what we provide. The atmosphere is quite relaxed, even though the road outside is chaotic. We’ve been here long enough that we know the bus schedules just by the sound of them passing. It is a practical business. We don't spend money on big ads because word of mouth works better for us. People know they can come in, get their hair done quickly, and get back to their day. It’s just a normal shop run by normal people who know their trade well and want to stay in the neighborhood.
