Marble House

Marble House sits right on the main road in Ultadanga, not too far from Mochi Bazar. The address is No. 148, and it’s a spot where there’s always something happening. Because we are near the market, there are always people walking by and cars honking. We have a lot of stone slabs sitting around, mostly marble of different types, and they take up most of the room. You have to be careful where you step because there is always a bit of grit on the floor from the cutting and moving. We don't have a big polished lobby or anything. It’s mostly just the work area and a small corner where we sit down to talk to people. Sometimes the stones get a bit wet when we wash them down to show the grain, and that makes the whole place smell a bit like damp earth. We open up early and usually stay until the streetlights come on. The main road can be a bit of a headache with the traffic, but it makes it easy for people to find us. We keep our books in a drawer and spend the afternoons checking what’s left in the yard. It’s a plain business, mostly about moving heavy things from one place to another. We’ve been doing it this way for a long time now and don't see that changing.
