Sushanta Saloon

My shop is at 83 No Indra Biswas Road in the Belgachia area. It’s a small place, just one of many little shops along this road. I’ve been here for a long time, so most of the people who walk past know me by name. I keep the shop very basic. There are two chairs and a big mirror that covers most of one wall. I don't have any assistants, so it’s just me doing the work. This means things move a bit slower, but I think people like the personal touch. We talk about local news or whatever is happening in Belgachia. The shop doesn't have a lot of decorations. Just some calendars and maybe a small shrine in the corner. I use a straight razor for shaves, the old way. It takes more time but it’s better. I get a lot of older men who have been coming to me since I first opened the doors. Now their sons come too. It makes me feel good to see them grow up. The street outside is always noisy with buses and people, but inside it’s a bit calmer. I try to keep the place as clean as I can, but hair gets everywhere. I just sweep it up at the end of the day. It’s not a fancy life, but it’s my life and I’m happy with my little saloon here.
