You can find Survottam Mercantile on the second floor of 10/A Ho Chi Minh Sarani. We are right across from the American Embassy, which is a big landmark in this part of Kolkata. It is a nice area with lots of trees and old buildings. Our office is a simple place where we handle our mercantile business. We deal with various trades and paperwork all day long. The building has that classic Kolkata feel to it, and we have been here long enough that the guards and the tea sellers downstairs all know us. It is a lot of phone calls and ledger work. We do not go in for flashy furniture or high-end decor. It is just desks, chairs, and a lot of filing cabinets. We try to keep things moving so people do not have to wait. Being on the second floor gives us a bit of a view of the street, which is nice when things get stressful. We are just a group of people doing a job we understand well. We do not have a fancy mission statement. We just show up, do the trading or the paperwork that needs doing, and head home. Sometimes the elevator is out of service and we have to take the stairs, but that is just part of being in an older building. It is a steady kind of life here on the Sarani.
