Srinivasa Properties

We are tucked away at 37 Jatin Das Road in Tollygunge. It’s an older building, the kind you find around this part of the city, with thick walls and high ceilings that help a bit when the humidity gets high. Srinivasa Properties has been operating out of this single room for a long time. There is a small window that looks out onto the street, and if you sit there long enough, you’ll see half the neighborhood walk by. We don’t have a big sign out front, just a small one near the gate that sometimes gets covered by the bushes. Inside, it’s mostly just paper, maps, and a few old pens that rarely work on the first try. Working in Tollygunge has its own rhythm. Things move a bit slower here than they do in the center of town. We spend our days answering the phone and writing things down in our diaries. Sometimes we go out to look at sites, but mostly we’re here at the desk. The chai wallah comes around twice a day, which is usually when we take our breaks. It’s a very straightforward setup. No one wears suits or anything like that. We just wear what’s comfortable and talk to whoever comes in. It’s a bit messy sometimes, with files piled up, but we know where everything is kept.
