Sriniketan Salon

At Sriniketan Salon, we’ve set up shop at 275/1, Gopal Lal Tagore Road. It’s a pretty straightforward place. We have our chairs lined up and the mirrors on the wall have seen better days, but they do the job just fine. Being in the 700036 area means we get a lot of local guys coming in after work or on their day off. The street outside is always humming with something going on. Inside, it’s mostly the sound of scissors and the radio playing in the background. We don’t have any of those fancy modern setups, just the basics for a haircut or a shave. I usually start the day by sweeping up the hair from the evening before and getting the towels ready. It’s a small space, so you might have to wait on the bench if it’s a Saturday. We don’t do appointments or anything, you just walk in and wait your turn. Most of our regulars have been coming here for years, so we know exactly how they like their sideburns or how short to go on top. It’s a local spot where people talk about the news or the weather while they sit in the chair. Sometimes the tea seller from down the road brings us a few cups. It’s just a normal business running on a normal Kolkata street. We keep the lights on until the last customer leaves.
