Sonica Marbles

Sonica Marbles is situated at 20, Loudon Street. This street has its own character, and we are right in the thick of it. Working with marble is a heavy business. Every slab that comes in has its own weight and feel, and moving them around is a slow process that takes a lot of care. The warehouse area is often cool because of the stone, which is nice when the weather outside gets sticky. We don't have a big, fancy reception area. It’s mostly just the slabs standing on their racks and a small desk where we keep the books. Loudon Street is a well-known spot, so people find us easily enough, though parking can be a bit of a nightmare during the busy hours. We spend a lot of our time checking the edges of the stones and making sure the water for the cutting tools is running right. There is always a layer of fine white dust on our shoes by the end of the shift. It’s just how marble work goes. We have a couple of old wooden chairs for when we need to take a break and a fan that wobbles when it turns. It’s a very hands-on kind of job. We don't spend much time on fancy talk; we just show the slabs and help people figure out what fits their space. The days go by pretty fast when you are moving that much weight around.
