Sona Maa Marble Emporium

So we are here at No. 119/a Bepin Behari Ganguly Street. It’s a busy spot. You’ve probably seen the dust if you’ve walked by. That’s just part of dealing with stone. We have been here for a good while now, mostly moving marble slabs in and out. It’s heavy work and my back feels it some days, but the patterns on the stones are something else. Some pieces have these deep veins that look like a map or something. We don't have a fancy showroom with air conditioning or anything like that. It’s just us and the stone. People come in looking for something for their floors or maybe a kitchen top. We show them what’s in the stacks. Sometimes a piece is chipped and we have to put it aside. It happens. The light in the morning hits the front of the shop and really shows the colors well. We spend a lot of time just shifting things around to make space. It gets crowded quickly when a new truck arrives. We try to keep things organized but sometimes the paperwork piles up on the desk. It’s a local business through and through. Nothing corporate about it. We just handle the marble and try to get through the day's orders. If you need to find us, just look for the place with all the white dust near the door.
