Somnath Tanti Saloon

Our shop is Somnath Tanti Saloon. We are at 14P, Dum Dum Road in Kolkata. It is right near the Dum Dum Railway Station. If you have ever been to that station you know how many people are always moving around there. It is one of the busiest places in the city. The shop is just a small room really. We have been here for a long time. My name is Somnath and I run the place with some help. We see all kinds of people coming off the trains every hour. Some are tired from work and others are just starting their day early. The 700030 area is always loud with the sounds of the buses and the trains. I like the noise because it means there are people around. We have a couple of chairs and the basic tools we need. There is a small window that looks out onto the street. I watch the world go by when there are no customers. Sometimes the chai wala brings us tea in those little clay cups. We talk about the weather or how the trains are running late again. It is a simple way to make a living. The walls could use a new coat of paint but it doesn't bother anyone who comes in. We are just a local saloon for the common man. It is a good spot to be near the station and we stay open late.
