Smash Writing Instruments (P) Ltd.

We are located on the second floor of 21 Amartala Street. If you’ve ever been down this way, you know how busy it gets. The street is always packed with people and carts, and it’s a bit of a squeeze to get through sometimes. Up here at Smash Writing Instruments (P) Ltd., it’s a different world. We make pens and other things you write with. There’s a constant sound of machines running, a sort of rhythmic clicking that you stop noticing after the first hour. Our desks are often stained with ink, and it’s hard to find a piece of paper that doesn't have a few scribbles on it where someone was testing a nib. We have boxes stacked up ready to go out, sometimes blocking the way to the tiny bathroom. It’s a practical place. We don’t spend money on fancy furniture because the ink would just ruin it anyway. Most of us have been working together for years, so we know each other's habits pretty well. We have our tea breaks at the same time every day, and that’s when we catch up on local news. It’s not a quiet job, and it’s definitely not a clean one, but there’s something nice about making something that people use every day. We just keep the machines oiled and the ink flowing. It’s what we know how to do, and we do it right here on Amartala Street every day.
