Shree Balaji Marbles

You can find us at No. 86/2C, right on Topsia Road South. We are pretty close to the Viswakarma Building, which is a big landmark for anyone trying to find Shree Balaji Marbles. This part of Kolkata is always moving. There is never a moment when the street is actually quiet. We have our marble stock laid out so people can see the patterns. It’s a lot of manual work, shifting these pieces around so they don't get scratched. We don't have a big marketing team or anything like that; it’s just us talking to whoever walks through the door. The floor is usually covered in a bit of dust, and the heat in the summer can be something else entirely. We keep a few chairs out for when people want to sit and talk about their homes. Sometimes the traffic on Topsia Road makes it hard for the trucks to back in, so we have to coordinate with the traffic police or just wait for a gap. It's a busy life. We know the other shop owners on the street and we all kind of look out for each other. Most of the day is spent checking the inventory and making sure the orders are ready for delivery. It's just a regular local business trying to keep up with the demand of the city. We have been in this same spot for years now, and while the buildings around us change, our daily routine of moving stone stays the same.
