Shiv Shakti Art Saloon

Shiv Shakti Art Saloon is tucked away on the ground floor of 17/1 Bagbazar Street. We are very close to the local post office. Bagbazar is one of those old neighborhoods in Kolkata where everyone knows everyone. Our shop has been here for a long time. It’s not very big, just enough for two or three chairs. We do mostly haircuts and shaves for the men around here. The "Art" in our name is just something we liked, we are really just a regular barber shop. The walls have a few old calendars on them. We have a small sink at the back for washing hair. The post office is a great landmark because everyone comes there. We see people of all ages. Some of our customers have been coming here since they were kids. Now they bring their own children. We don't have a fancy menu of services. You just come in and tell us what you want. We use regular soap for shaves and standard scissors. The street outside is narrow and can get very congested with rickshaws and people. We like the buzz of the area. It feels like home. We open early in the morning, around eight, and we don't close until late. Sometimes we sit outside on a stool when there are no customers. It is a simple life and a simple shop. We just do our bit for the Bagbazar community.
