Sharma Art Saloon

Sharma Art Saloon has been on Ultadanga Main Road for quite a while now. Being in Ultadanga means there is always a lot of noise and buses going by. The shop isn't very big, but we made sure to fit in everything we need. I put the word Art in the name because I think cutting hair takes a bit of a steady hand and some focus. We mostly see local workers and people living in the nearby flats. The floor is usually covered in hair until we get a break to sweep it up. It gets pretty busy in the evenings when people are coming home from their jobs. We have a few fans to keep the air moving because it gets really stuffy in the summer months. I spend most of my day standing by the chair with my scissors. It’s a simple business. We don’t use any fancy products, just the usual stuff you find in any Kolkata saloon. People know what to expect when they walk in. I try to keep the mirrors clean, but the humidity makes it tough sometimes. It’s a decent living and I like being my own boss here on the main road. Most of our customers have been coming to us for years and we know exactly how they like their hair. We just keep things moving one person at a time and hope the electricity stays on.
