At 26/5D, Northern Avenue, things are pretty straightforward. We’re right near the Seven Tanks Crossing, which is always a hub of activity. People are constantly moving through here, and we’re just one of the many small businesses lined up along the road. Shaons Hair And Beauty Salon is just a place where we cut hair and do some basic beauty work. We have the usual mirrors, the chairs that have seen better days, and a lot of combs. The floor gets covered in hair pretty quickly, so someone is always holding a broom. It’s not a spa with soft music and incense. It’s just a local shop where you can hear the traffic outside while you get a trim. We know most of the people in the neighborhood. They stop by, talk about the weather or the price of fish, and then go on their way. We don’t try to be anything we aren’t. It’s a small space, and it gets a bit cramped when there are more than three people waiting. But that’s how it goes in North Kolkata. We keep things simple and honest. No big advertisements, just a sign outside and the door open. It’s just a way to pay the bills and be part of the community here near the crossing. We just do what we do and try to keep everyone happy.
