Our place is at 99/27 Jessore Road, over in the Satgachi area near Nager Bazar in Dum Dum. It’s a busy part of town, especially with the airport not too far away and all the trucks on Jessore Road. The name refers to teak wood, and that’s mostly what you’ll find if you walk inside. The smell of wood is pretty strong the moment you open the door. We have various pieces of furniture lined up, mostly beds and cabinets. It’s a bit dark in some corners because we have so much stock piled up. We spend our afternoons mostly rearranging things to make the shop look okay for anyone who walks in. The traffic outside can be a real headache, especially when we are trying to load furniture onto a rickshaw or a small van. We’ve been in Dum Dum for quite a while now. Most of our neighbors know us. It’s a lot of manual work, lifting and shifting heavy timber and finished pieces. Sometimes the humidity makes the wood swell a bit, so we have to watch out for that. We don't really do much advertising. People just see the shop while they are stuck in traffic on Jessore Road and decide to stop by. We just try to keep things honest and simple. It’s a small operation, but it keeps us going from morning till night. We just do our thing and hope people find what they need.
