Sankar Hair Gents Saloon

You can find Sankar Hair Gents Saloon tucked away at 96/1 Duff Lane, just off Beadon Street. It is one of those old parts of Kolkata where the lanes are narrow and everyone knows each other. We’ve been operating out of this small space for years. It's a gents-only place, mostly regulars who live in the nearby houses. The shop has a certain smell of talcum powder and aftershave that never really goes away. We have a couple of chairs and a wooden bench for people to wait on. It’s not the kind of place where you make an appointment; you just show up and wait your turn. Sometimes there is a bit of a queue, but people don't seem to mind chatting while they wait. We do simple cuts. Nothing too modern or strange, just what looks good on a working man. The lighting isn't the brightest, but we know where everything is kept. We keep the radio on most of the time for some background noise while we work. Working here on Duff Lane feels like being part of the furniture. We see the same faces every month. If you’re looking for a fancy place with tea and magazines, this isn’t it. But if you want a quick shave or a trim from someone who’s done it a thousand times, come find us. We keep our tools ready and the doors open.
