Sandip Saloon

I run Sandip Saloon which is located on the ground floor in Jagatpur Bazar. We are in the Aswini Nagar area of Kolkata. Being right in the market means there is always something going on outside the door. You can hear the vegetable sellers and the people bargaining all day. The shop itself is quite small, just enough space for two chairs and a little corner where I keep my supplies. I’ve been in this location for a long time now. Most of my customers are the people who work in the other stalls in the bazar or the families who live in the apartments around Aswini Nagar. It is a very down-to-earth place. We don't have air conditioning, so the ceiling fan works hard during the hot months. I try to keep the mirrors wiped down and the towels fresh. It’s a simple life, cutting hair and talking to the people who come in. I’ve seen kids grow up and start bringing their own children here. That’s the nice thing about a local shop in a place like Jagatpur Bazar. We don't have a menu of services or anything like that. You just tell me how you want your hair or beard to look and I do my best to make it happen. It’s an honest, no-frills saloon for anyone in the neighborhood who needs it. I like the busy atmosphere of the bazar and being a part of the daily life of the people here in Aswini Nagar.
